Oct 12, 2022

HUHA have animal shelters in Kaitoke, Otaki and Manukau where their team look after surrendered or discarded animals while they wait to find their forever home. They have many Outpost Buildings on their two sites to help house the many animals they have in their care.

What is HUHA?

HUHA stands for “Helping you help animals” and is a charitable trust dedicated to providing shelter for abandoned or less fortunate animals that are in need of rescuing. HUHA is fun and interactive in many ways, the trust aims to teach empathy and encourage the community to be proactive and take responsibility for the welfare of animals. The HUHA team works every day to find homes and foster care for a multitude of homeless, abandoned, seized and abused animals. They’re here to help you help animals.

Paddock Shelters for Horses, Sheep, Cows, Goats, Donkeys and everything else!

HUHA rescues all sorts of animals so they needed versatile paddock shelters that could be moved in between their paddocks. Pictured above is a Homestead Paddock Shelter currently being used to shelter some lovely Kune Kune Pigs. If you are wanting a new paddock pet then HUHA is a great place to go to get yourself a great pet. You can see what animals they have available for adoption on their website: https://huha.org.nz/adoptions/animals-for-adoption/

New Dog Homes at HUHA

Last year HUHA ordered 12 Custom buildings from Outpost to use for housing dogs and new offices. The design is based on our Settler Summer House and each building will have two rooms with a big glass ranch slider for each room. The rooms will be well insulated to keep the dogs nice and warm and be lined with strong plywood so they’re durable and easy to clean out.

The buildings are still in various stages of being built and were supplied by Outpost without the window and door joinery and steel roofing as these parts have been kindly supplied by HUHA Supporters to save on costs.

Carolyn Press-McKenzie and her husband Jim McKenzie started HUHA with the desire to help, protect and rescue animals and birdlife. Here's what she had to say about Outpost Buildings:

Why did HUHA choose Outpost Buildings?

“We love that Outpost is a Kiwi company. The Outpost team is incredibly approachable and the service we receive is personal and helpful. Outpost kitsets are extremely affordable and adaptable. But mostly they made the process so easy and listened to our needs every step of the way!” said Carolyn.

What do you like the most about Outpost Buildings?

“We love the rustic style, the quality, and how sturdy and robust they are - they are built to last and that was really important to us.” Said Carolyn.

Sponsor an Animal and help HUHA

HUHA has animals that need a sponsor to help pay for the care they need and deserve. From as little as a dollar a week you can make a huge difference to these animals’ lives.

There are dogs, pigs, horses, birds, goats and even a monkey and a turtle that live in the care of HUHA. These animals also help the community by teaching an important lesson of empathy and compassion to visiting “At Risk Youth”.

For sponsoring an animal, you will receive the following for an annual sponsorship

    • A picture of your sponsored animal
    • Regular updates about the animal
    • An invitation to the sanctuary to meet your sponsored animal
    • For sponsors who would like to be more hands on we encourage regular play dates at the sanctuary for you and your animal.

If you would like to sponsor an animal, please visit the HUHA website:
