The benefits of a garden shed
An Outpost garden shed is a fantastic addition to nearly any plot of land, providing instant space, organisation, aesthetics and even property value.
Organisation. Outpost garden sheds provide the space you need to properly organise your tools, making them easy to find and retrieve when you need them. Who hasn’t experienced the ‘mystery of the missing toolbox’? Save yourself the search with a garden shed.
Easy access. Gardening is hard work - why make it harder? An Outpost garden shed gives you easy access to your tools where you actually need them; no need to go trekking into the garage every time you need a new piece of hardware.
Better aesthetics. Outpost garden sheds reduce clutter from your garden, providing a place to keep your tools out of sight and giving you the opportunity to enjoy your garden to its fullest without an errant spade spoiling the view.
More space. Space is always at a premium, and a garden shed allows you to free some of it up where you need it. Unclutter your garage and deck by keeping your gardening tools in an Outpost shed instead.
Higher property value. It’s a fact: home buyers value storage space. When they step into your open home, they’re trying to fit their own lives into your home. Give them some extra room - and add some extra dollars to their offer - with an Outpost garden shed.
Get creative! Garden sheds aren’t just garden sheds - they can be anything from playhouses to art studios to home offices. The only limit is your imagination. Outpost garden sheds can easily be converted into a wide range of different uses.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best garden shed to buy?
Buying a garden shed can be complicated. The best garden shed for you will depend entirely on your unique needs. Do you need a small shed for just a few odds and ends, or full-sized storage shed for everything from tools to lawnmowers?
Outpost Buildings provides a wide range of differently sized and shaped garden sheds to match every size and shape of garden - from compact tool sheds to enormous double-doored storage sheds.
Do garden sheds need a base?
While some garden sheds are designed to be used with a foundation, Outpost Buildings kitset garden sheds are designed to be far more flexible and a lot less work.
Our sheds are made from tough, durable materials, including sustainably grown New Zealand pine. This makes them portable, allowing you to place them where you need them, when you need them - and then move them when they’re not needed anymore.
This also means that our garden sheds don’t require a base. No need for digging or concrete pouring or any of the other usual hassle - they just need a flat area to sit on. Just grab some basic tools and a willing helper, spend a weekend putting it together, and you’ll have a garden shed ready to go.
And if you decide you don’t want a shed any more? Don’t worry, we won’t be offended. The portability of an Outpost garden shed means you can easily sell it onto the next owner, putting some dollars back into your pocket and reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing a new shed.
Do you need a permit to build a garden shed?
In New Zealand, you sometimes require a permit to build certain detached structures. However, there’s also a long list of exemptions to these rules, which you can find here.
Outpost Buildings garden sheds are designed to be as easy to construct as possible, and that includes dealing with any required paperwork. Kitset garden sheds up to 30 square metres may be eligible for consent exemption. This includes the vast majority of our kitset sheds.
If you’re concerned about the need for permits for your garden shed, we encourage you to get in touch with our team, who may be able to provide some guidance on the specific garden shed you are looking to build.
Is it cheaper to build a shed or buy a garden shed?
It’s expensive to build a shed from scratch. You have to hire a builder, source some materials, deal with consents (depending on the size and nature of the shed).
Sounds like a lot of work, so we decided to do something about it.
Outpost Buildings garden shed kitsets are designed to be constructed with only basic tools. All of the fixings, nails, and other materials are right there in the box, requiring only a weekend of work and two people with handymen skills. This means less cost for you, and the knowledge that your DIY project has been vetted by experts before you even start.
But kitsets are big - surely the shipping is expensive? We provide free shipping of our kitsets to Toll transport depots in New Zealand - we’ll even organise a hiab truck to finish the final journey from there on your behalf, for a small extra charge.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy your kitset. We’ll handle getting it to you.
