The Right Space, the Right Shed: A Practical Storage Solution

Sep 07, 2026

When you’re making the most of a rural or lifestyle property, having the right space to store everyday essentials can make a huge difference.

For one recent Outpost customer, the goal was straightforward: find an open-front building that would provide practical, accessible storage for tools and general equipment, while freeing up some much-needed space elsewhere on the property.

The challenge was finding a building that made the most of the available space. After researching all of the options, and after exploring the options, the dimensions of Outpost’s Upland Firewood Shed proved to be the perfect fit - at a price that made sense.

It wasn't about finding the cheapest shed- it was about finding a building that would work for the property, provide the space needed and remain useful for years to come.

Finding the Right Fit

With the shed’s location determining what would work, dimensions were the number-one priority. The goal was simple: find the largest and deepest storage space possible at an affordable price.

After plenty of research, he kept coming back to Outpost.

“We took a lot of time investigating options, and we always came back to Outpost Buildings.”

A recommendation from a neighbour also helped make the decision even easier. With three Outpost buildings already on their property, the neighbour had first-hand experience and highly recommended the brand.

That recommendation provided valuable reassurance. It gave the customer confidence that they were choosing a product that had already stood the test of time on a similar rural property.

Helpful Advice Made the Process Easier

Once the customer had decided on the right building, the Outpost team helped get everything organised.

Greg was particularly helpful throughout the process, making sure the right kitset had been selected for what the customer wanted to achieve.

“Greg was outstanding, super helpful, always accessible.”

For someone who had taken the time to carefully research their options, having someone knowledgeable available to answer questions and help with the details made a real difference.

It meant the customer could move forward with confidence, knowing they had chosen a building that suited both the available space and how they planned to use it.

A DIY Project with a Few Practical Solutions

With previous experience building houses, the customer was more than comfortable taking on the project themselves. They enjoyed the hands-on nature of putting the building together and appreciated being able to create their own practical solutions along the way.

As they worked through the kitset, they also identified a few opportunities to improve the assembly process and alternative approaches to the roofing. They even came up with their own practical solution for managing rainwater, using a funnel attached to the lintel and connecting it to 30mm polypipe to direct water away from the shed area.

For someone who enjoys DIY and likes finding practical ways to make things work, the build became part of the experience - with plenty of satisfaction in seeing the building take shape and ultimately putting it to use.

From Empty Space to a Shed Full of Purpose

Of course, the real test came once the building was finished. And it didn't take long for him to put the new space to work.

The customer’s favourite part? “It being done and full!”

The shed has provided much-needed room for tools, firewood and other belongings, while also freeing up valuable space in an existing 20-foot container.

That's the real value of adding a building like this to a rural property.

It's not simply about having another structure on the section. It's about creating useful space, getting things organised and making the property work better for everyday life.

A Building That Earned Its Place

For this customer, choosing Outpost was never really in doubt.

“I knew it would be great from the moment we chose it.”

The combination of practical, purpose-built designs, suitable dimensions and an affordable price made Outpost stand out from the alternatives considered.

And the finished result has delivered exactly what was needed: a durable, practical storage space that fits the property and gets used every day.

It's a great example of why taking the time to research your options can pay off. Rather than settling for a shed that was simply available, the customer found a building that fitted the space, budget and the way they wanted to use it.

A Special Thanks to Greg

A big part of the experience was the support received along the way.

“A special thanks to Greg who made the process very easy and we had a few good laughs about the build!”

For someone taking on a DIY project, knowing there's a knowledgeable and approachable team behind the kitset can make all the difference.

In the end, this customer didn't just add another shed to his property. They created a useful, well-designed space that solved a real storage problem.

And with the new Outpost building now packed full and doing exactly what it was bought for, it's clear they found the right fit.
