Boat Sheds

Kitset boat sheds designed with strength, durability and security in mind.

Protect your boat with some of the toughest, most customisable boat sheds in New Zealand.

What is a kitset boat shed?

A boat shed has a simple but important role for any boatie: keeping your vessel safe from the weather, wind and people who might like to take it out for a spin without your permission. They’re also dead handy for keeping your various boating supplies on hand where you need them, rather than having to lug them in your car every time you want to get out on the water. Storage and protection, all in one.

A kitset boat shed is a little different from the traditional constructed boat shed. Instead of having to source everything yourself for a DIY project, or seeking out a builder with the right design for you, a kitset provides you with everything you need to build your own boat shed in a single kit: from the framing to the cladding to the doors to even the nails.

If you’re a handy sort, this means an easy, step-by-step process to getting your boat shed up and running. And if you’d prefer a professional to put it together, it’s even easier. Instructions are included along with all the materials, so you know you’ll get exactly what you paid for, every time.

The benefits of a kitset boat shed

While a boat shed is an important piece of kit for anyone who likes to be out on the water, there are boat sheds and then there are boat sheds.
We’re a leading supplier of kitset buildings, and our boat sheds are a prime example of the quality you can come to expect from Outpost Buildings:

'Built Tough'

When you’re relying on a kitset to protect something as valuable as your boat, durability and toughness should be at the top of your wishlist. We design our boat sheds to be incredibly strong, using only the best NZ-grown pine in the framing and ZINCALUME or Colorsteel corrugated iron cladding in the roof.

This means our boat sheds can take a knock, withstand the worst of everyday New Zealand weathers, last much longer than other, similar designs, and provide a solid safeguard against thieves and vandals.

Still not convinced? Our guarantees speak for themselves. We guarantee the quality of the components and kitset fabrication done in our workshops, and our corrugated iron cladding from Colorsteel comes with a 10-year manufacturer guarantee.

Made in New Zealand

New Zealand is a nation of sailors - there’s a reason we won the America’s Cup. We consistently punch above our weight, so why shouldn’t our boat shed designs?

We choose to use New Zealand sourced materials wherever possible, ensuring that you get a high-quality product that’s designed with the needs of New Zealanders in mind. This includes our sustainably grown New Zealand pine - because we care about our country as well as the quality of your boat shed.

Simply stain it or paint it appropriately, and it’ll stand up against anything the weather can throw at it.

Portable

Things change - it’s a fact of life. You move home, your boat moves home, or you sell your boat and don’t need the storage for it anymore.

That’s why we’ve designed our boat sheds to be relocatable. They’re tough, sure, but they’re also light enough to be moved to where you need them, using either a 4WD for the smaller models and a hiab truck for the larger ones. This means they go where you want, when you want, whether that’s to another property, to another owner, or to a new spot that’s just freed up from completing another project.

The fact that our boat sheds are portable kitsets also has another big bonus: consent exemption. For most standard uses and placements, our kitsets are covered under the recent changes to requiring consent for low-risk construction. One less paperwork headache to worry about.

Customisable

We produce boat sheds with a core of New Zealand pine. This makes it strong, sure - we’ve covered that already! - but it also makes them easy to customise.

Take storage, for example. Every boatie knows how much equipment comes with going out on the water. Life jackets, electronics, spare fuel, fishing gear - there’s heaps to keep track of. With a wooden boat shed, you can easily add shelves, racks and other storage options inside your shed, requiring just a few screws.

A place for everything, and everything in its place - with the right customisable boat shed. You can even convert it into a different kind of lifestyle shed if you don’t need a boat shed anymore.

Rapid construction

Nobody likes the feeling of their property being unsafe. Ever wondered if you left the door unlocked or the hob on when you leave on holiday? The same goes for the safety of your boat.

A traditional boat shed can take a long time to construct, but not so with a kitset boat shed. You get everything you need in a single package, so you or your builder can get started right away. Better yet, we’ve designed our kitsets to be built in just a few days, meaning you get your boat under cover and under lock and key sooner.

How much does it cost to build a boat shed?

Building a boat shed can be an expensive exercise.

You may have to source materials, designs, labour, consents - it can become a lot of work and a lot of cost all at once, and we know that often puts people off. That’s why we’ve designed our kitset boat sheds to match a wide range of different boats and budgets - from jet skis through to speed boats.

No matter what design you choose, you know you’re getting a high-quality, durable product at great value.
